CN Band Newsletter 09.03.2024

From the Director’s Desk

Happy Tuesday evening everyone. I hope everyone had a great three-day weekend. Last week was a solid first home football game in our uniforms. We are now entering four weeks with a lot to do. We will be intensely learning the field show to get as much as we can on the field to get ready for our first competition that will be here before we know it. Rehearsals are extremely important to attend. Make sure to triple-check the calendar for required events. We put something together for halftime and sounded good in the stands.

There is no football game this week. As we prepare for our next game please remember the following:

  • Check CutTime events for the itinerary and what the uniform is.

    • You must wear the appropriate attire under your uniforms

  • Make sure to have your flip folder and lyre with music in the stands

    • There were many students without their music. This negatively impacts the quality of the group. Please remember to do all you need to do to make us the best we can be.

Standard of the Week

"Be Prepared"

Be Prepared

We will now start moving fast.  Learning drill to the show, adding music, choreography etc.  We will also have performances once a week.  It is important to be prepared both physically and mentally.  Help us be the best we can be by understanding your part as well as being where you need to be, when you need to be, with what you need to have!!!

A Message from Kenny Gilman Photography:

CN Band Parents,

We are excited to be working with your students again this year. We will be taking group pictures as well as individual and buddy photos for those who are interested in purchasing them, on Saturday 9/7. A few days later we will send out a link for you to view and purchase these photos. Individual portraits will start at $16.50. You will be able to make your selections and purchases after you view the proofs.

We do ask that you please decide before hand with your student whether or not you are interested in purchasing individual or buddy photos. While we would love to have everyone take photos, please remind your students to be courteous not only of our time but also the other students who are waiting their turn for photos, and only take individual or buddy photos if you intend to make a purchase. Please feel free to email us with any questions that you may have.

Thank You!

Message from the Band Booster Parent President

Thank you, Band Family, for showing up for your kids!

It has been wonderful to see the large turnout at Tuesday night practices and football games.

Please come out to the baseball field at 8:30pm every Tuesday night to watch the final run-through and get to know other band parents.

Our first Band Night out is next Wednesday, September 11th from 11:00am - 9:00pm at Mountain Mike’s Pizza (8965 N. Cedar Avenue). 40% of sales will go back to the band! It’s an easy way to support our program.

Because our first Band Parent Night Out was such a success, we are planning another for the evening of Saturday 9/28! It will be at Jody and Andy McTavish’s house. More details coming soon.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you have!

WE HAVE A WEBSITE!!!!!!

After many moons of working to create a website for the CN Band I am happy to announce that with the help of Mr. Rogers, we now have our own CNEC Band Website!!!

Please visit: www.clovisnorthband.org to see what is there. It will become the main source of information for all things Clovis North Band.

CutTime Signatures

There are still quite a few families who have not completed the signatures on CutTime. Please attend to this immediately. We will be updating the grade book this weekend. All signatures not completed will be entered as zeros in the grade book.

The five forms on CutTime need student and parent signatures are:

  • Varsity Letter Application Acknowledgement

  • 24-25 CN Band Handbook Acknowledgment

  • CUSD Field Trip Code of Conduct

  • Concert Etiquette

  • CUSD Code of Ethics

To get to these documents click your CutTime magic link and scroll down to the signatures section. There you can view and digitally sign each document. Each document is counted as a class assignment and will lower a student's grade if not completed. Thank you for your swift attention to this matter.

This Friday, Sept. 6 we will be participating in our fifth annual Bronco Blitz. We will tour our 5 CN Area Elementary schools and spread some Bronco Spirit. There are still 20 students who have not turned in their blue slips. Please complete and return to Mr. Rogers ASAP!!!!

Football Game Attendance

We are thankful to have strong attendance at football games from our band parents and families. It has been brought to my attention from the Athletic Department that last season and last week there were band parents who suggested they were supposed to attend the football game without purchasing a ticket. Everyone attending the football game except for student participants, band chaperones, and pit crew must purchase a ticket to attend football games. Thank you for your cooperation regarding this matter.

Mattress Fundraiser

Saturday, September 28 in the GR gym. This fundraiser works due to word of mouth. The more people we bring to the gym the more chance of selling a mattress we have. The band will earn money towards our general financial goals for the year through mattress sales. However, your student can earn money as well like this: using the mattress referral form which we have many of in the band room, they write their name at the bottom and hand them out. If someone buys a mattress and uses the referral form, you gave them you will receive a personal bonus. You will receive the following incentive:

1 mattress sold = $25.00

2 mattresses sold = $50.00

3 mattresses sold = $100.00

4 mattresses sold = $150.00

5 mattresses sold= $200.00

PLEASE TAKE A YARD SIGN FROM THE BAND ROOM AND PLACE IT IN YOUR YARD

Music Tests and pass offs

Makeups have begun for the Fight Song and National Anthem. Students retesting are doing a good job passing off the two pieces.

The next things to be tested for wind players will be:

  • Articulation 1 Sat. 9/7

  • Nexxus Part 1 Sat 9/14

Concert Attire

Our fall concert is scheduled for Wed. Oct. 23. We hope to see all of our families in attendance. Stay tuned for more info about the fall concert.

Students will need the proper attire for this concert.

It is the following:

  • Boys: Black suit or tuxedo, white long-sleeve dress shirt, black bow tie, black dress socks, black dress shoes (marching band shoes are acceptable for this).

  • Girls: Black dress pants or slacks, black blouse or sweater, black stockings/socks, black dress shoes (flats)

Don’t forget to join us the last 30 minutes of our Tuesday night rehearsals.

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!

Have a great rest of your week!
