CN Band Newsletter 03.17.2026

From the Director’s Desk

I would like to extend a sincere thank you to Kristen McClain and her team for hosting a fantastic fundraiser last weekend.

Kristin McClain & Chris Mericle
Kristin McClain & Chris Mericle

We truly appreciate your dedication to raising funds for our students and programs.

THANK YOU!

Winter Pageantry

Congratulations to the CN Winter Percussion on completing four consecutive performances this past week. Notably, the group earned a 3rd place finish at the WGI Regional in Union City, our first appearance at this event in 12 years. This is a remarkable achievement.

We also enjoyed a wonderful evening last night with a full house in the bleachers. It was a beautiful celebration of our indoor programs. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our students, and a warm "welcome back" to our Little Broncos elementary color guard!

We are now just two weeks away from the SJVCGPR Championships. Don't miss this final opportunity to see these five ensembles perform as they conclude a successful 2026 indoor season.

Upcoming Concert Band Festivals

Our ensembles continue to excel during festival season. At last week’s CUSD Band Festival, both the CN Concert Band and Wind Ensemble earned "Superior" ratings. Congratulations to all our musicians on their hard work.

Please join us for these upcoming events:

  • Friday, March 20: 16th Annual San Joaquin Valley Concert Band Invitational

Thursday Afternoon: Wind Ensemble rehearsal with guest conductors. 1:15-5:15pm

Friday: Wind Ensemble students will facilitate the event throughout the day.

7:30 PM: Wind Ensemble performance, followed by the Wind Symphony of Clovis. (Tickets: $10.00)

  • Tuesday, March 24: CMEA Band Festival @ Washington Union HS

12:00 PM: CN Concert Band (Open to the public)

12:30 PM: CN Wind Ensemble (Open to the public)

Detailed schedules are available on Cuttime.

Thursday, March 26: CN Wind Ensemble with San Jose State Wind Ensemble

7:00 PM: Concert begins.

Note: CN Concert Band students are required to attend as observers (Admission is free for these students; General Admission is $5.00).

Chocolate Bar Fundraiser

Our candy sale is in full swing! Students may turn in funds to Mr. Rogers to receive additional boxes during lunchtime. Please remember that once a box is issued, the student is responsible for the $100.00 total.

Neither Clovis North nor the Band Program is responsible for lost or stolen items.

Let’s work together to complete these sales quickly!

Transportation Team

Class A Drivers Needed We are looking to expand our equipment transport team. Dennis has been our dedicated driver since 2011, and while he isn't fully retiring yet, we are looking for substitute drivers to begin a transition period.

If you or someone you know holds a Class A License and is interested in supporting the band, please contact Mr. Gabrielson or Mr. Lesser. If you have ever been interested in earning your Class A license, we would also love to discuss how we can help you through that process. This role is vital—without drivers, our program cannot travel.

Nothing Bundt Cakes Fundraiser

Winter Percussion

Clovis North indoor Percussion performed at the WGI regional in Union City California over the weekend placing second in prelims and third at finals!

This is the first time the Percussion ensemble and visual team have been out of the city of Clovis in over 10 years!

CRAB FEED 2026 Recap

Our Crab Feed was a wonderful event again this year! Thank you to all who attended. We hope you enjoyed your evening and maybe went home with some delicious sweets from the dessert auction, some new treasures from the silent auction, and some new connections with members from our awesome band family community.

Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped with the many preparations before the event and who worked shifts on the big night. An event of this size doesn’t happen without many hands and you all are part of the success of the evening.

Thank you to all of the students who volunteered to help in shifts before the event and to clean up afterwards. Everyone who showed up to work did so with a positive attitude and a helper’s heart. They didn’t ask what to do, they just got right to work. And then consistently went around to all the adults asking “how else can I help”. Amazing job, kids!

The biggest THANK YOU goes to the parent volunteers who took leading roles in the major areas:

  • Kathy Armstrong

  • Geoff Fisher

  • Josh Gonzalez

  • Kathryn Gonzalez

  • Darren Huntley

  • Carol Lesser

  • Melissa Locke

  • Chris Mericle

  • Betsy Nagel

  • Donna Nakamura

  • Todd Pilosi

  • Virginia Pilosi

  • Shalea Pitman

  • Kim Quigley

  • Hoss Shojai

  • Heather Vowell

  • Viviana Wightman

  • Robin Wilson

  • Nicole Wright

They gave their valuable time and tireless effort to put this event on with me and together we made it happen with fantastic result!

Positive comments were coming from our guests all evening long! These parent volunteers’ pride and support of our kids and of our Band & Color Guard program are evident through their dedication in creating an event of this size. I’m grateful to work alongside them all.

Stay tuned for another edition of the newsletter where the final tallies of the evening’s success will be shared!

I’ve said it many times already, but once more for good measure - THANK YOU!! See you all at the next band event.
