From the Director’s Desk

Congratulations on another exciting weekend at the Golden State Tournament of Bands.  A large thank you to the parent volunteers who helped make that event a success not just for our students but for the Clovis Community and other participating bands.

  • We have another exciting 7-day swing. I hope you will join us tonight at the 18th Annual CUSD Band Night at VMS.  This is open to the public and begins at 6 pm with every middle school and high school band student performing the Star Spangled Banner.  There will be over 1000 student musicians and performers on the field!!!

  • Friday morning the drumline will go to the district office to play for All Clovis Week

  • We have our final regular season football game against Clovis East at Lamonica Stadium on Friday.  Kickoff will be at 7:30 pm

  • Saturday the band will be traveling to Dublin HS for our third WBA competition of the season.  Please go to westernbands.org to find our general information about the contest.

  • Join us on Monday night for our CNEC Fall Jazz Band Concert in the Concert Hall, which begins at 7pm.

THANK YOU ALL THE FAMILIES WHO PARTICIPATED IN OUR SECOND ANNUAL TRUNK OR TREAT LAST NIGHT!!!!

There were some great decorations and costumes.  Thanks for giving our students some additional fun after some hard work.

How Does the Weather Affect a Marching Band Competition?

If you have been keeping track of the forecast this week, you will see a chance of rain on Saturday.  We will play things on a minute-to-minute basis.  Please be prepared for anything.

  • The posted itinerary will be followed.

  • Any alterations will be sent out through remind for quick changes.

  • Any large changes will be made on CutTime itinerary and a remind text will be sent to instruct you to check the updated itinerary on CutTime

  • Please DO NOT assume any rehearsal or performance is canceled until you receive a remind text or notification from Mr. Lesser.

In the event of rain, you should have some other supplies ready to go.

  • Some type of raingear

  • A towel to dry your instrument

  • Woodwinds should have a pack of cigarette wrappers (I know this doesn’t sound appropriate but it is the best way to dry wet pads because of the type of paper and absorption that occurs)

Last Chance to Pass Off Fight Song, National Anthem, & Articulation # 1

This Friday is the cutoff date for the three performance tests.  Students can try Wed., Thur., Fri. @ Lunch, Thurs. after school, and Friday after school (will only be available until 4:30pm on Fri. Any student waiting in line Friday after 4:30pm will NOT be allowed to test).

Please remember students have had 12 weeks to attempt as many times as needed, with the ability to test once a day before school, during lunch, or after school.  We are hoping with the amount of times we have performed these three musical selections since the start of the school year students would have basic proficiency on these selections.

STANDARD OF THE WEEK

"Care for Each Other"

band

As we are almost halfway through the competitive part of the season we switch from learning mode to polish and excellence mode.  Here is where we want to tighten all the screws and get every individual to perform as close to 100% as possible.

This is a tedious process that takes determination, grit, and consistency from each member of the band.  It can get easy to start pointing fingers at one another when things are not going the way we might want. What is important during this time is to remember we all need to take care of each other.

  • What are the older members of the band doing to care for the younger members?

  • How are we teaching the expectations at this time in the season to people who are getting through it their first time?

  • What are the younger members doing to be prepared at each rehearsal, showing their enthusiasm, and coachability, while bringing something to the table each day, caring for the work our older members have laid out in the past for continued success?

Let’s not point the finger.  Let’s see how we are contributing to the group as individuals and help bring everyone together to find the highest level of achievement possible.

Pie Sale

Don’t miss out on one of our most popular fundraisers of the year… our PIE SALE!!!  Make room in your freezer and order your year's supply of pies today.

WBA CHAMPIONSHIPS

We have a fantastic fundraising opportunity that doesn’t come around all the time.  We are partnering with WBA, Clovis HS, and Clovis East HS to host the WBA 4/5A class and Grand Championships.

We posted volunteer slots last night and already have filled 40% of the needed volunteers.

We thank you ahead of time for participating in helping this event be a great one for students throughout California at this Championships event!

Message from Robin Wilson, CN Band Booster President

Hello Band Family!

Thank you, again, to all who volunteered last Saturday at the Golden State Tournament of Bands! We couldn't have done it without you!  Thank you, also, to all of those family and friends who came out to support our Bronco Band and Guard. It was awesome to see such a large turnout.  We had the loudest rooting section by far! Let's do it again tonight at CUSD Band Night and this weekend in Dublin!

CUSD Band Night is at VMS tonight!  This is a really fun, FREE event. Bring your friends and family to see all of the Clovis Unified middle and high school bands perform.  Let's try to sit together, if possible, to create a CN rooting section.

Our annual pie sale kicked off on Monday.  These pies are INCREDIBLE! Trust me, you don't want to miss out! Thanks to Jim Rogers, you now have the ability to order pies online!  Click HERE to visit the ordering page on our website.  Prefer a good ol' paper order form? The printable PDF is located at that link as well!

All orders are due by Tuesday, 11/12.  No late orders will be accepted.  If you are using a paper order form, please place your completed order form and payment (cash or checks made out to "The Bronco Foundation") in an envelope clearly marked "Pie Sale" and drop it in the black box outside of the band office.  Please spread the word about this fundraiser to your friends, family, and coworkers.

Last night was our second annual Bronco Band Trunk-or-Treat! It was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! Thank you to those who signed up to participate and/or donate candy. Please see our social media for photos/videos of the event.

We are hosting Championships, along with Clovis High and Clovis East.  This is a heavy lift and we need all hands on deck to fill the 80 volunteer slots in order to pull off this event.  Thank you in advance for signing up to help us make this event a success!

As always, don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you have.

Have a great rest of your week and I'll see you tonight at CUSD Band Night!
