From the Director’s Desk
Good Afternoon,
We are in our second week of the new semester and things have started out really well...
Parent Square: We are beginning to make the transition to Parent Square. We will make that our newest communication platform. We are being told will take the place of Remind. To do that we need to make sure ALL parents & especially STUDENTS make it so you can get parent square notifications on your cell phones. The default is email only and adults/guardians only. I am unsure how long CUSD will make Remind a viable option. We will see how it goes. 🙂
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the FMCMEA Honor Band and Orchestra last weekend. They were two very good concerts. Great work! This week we will celebrate the 8 students who are participating in our ALL-State Bands, and Orchestras!
Crab Feed: Be on the lookout for the ability to purchase tickets and share with friends and colleagues the ability to attend this great night of shellfish and support of our band program. It is a really fun night for the friends of the band and our community of people 21 and over.
Lost & Found: There is a huge pile of lost clothing and a very large amount of water bottles to be claimed before the end of January. All things left behind in February will be donated.
Pledge Forms: Pledge forms for the spring activities need to be completed no later than Friday, Jan. 31. They will be counted as a signed document homework assignment. Here are links to each activity.

Wind Ensemble
We are moving along in the music. We are still waiting for one piece to arrive. It is good to begin to hear some consistency and progress in our repertoire. Please note the dates of our Monday evening rehearsals.
Our next concert will be Wednesday, January 29. This is our area band articulation concert with the Granite Ridge Symphonic Band and our CN Area 6th grade band students.
Concert Band
We are happy to announce that Mr. Chip DeStefano, Director of Bands at McCracken Middle School, will be our featured clinician for our Concert Band camp in February. Our goal leading up to the camp is to learn all of our notes and rhythms so Mr. DeStefano can help us with ensemble sound and phrasing. Let's get practicing on our parts!
Jazz Band
The CN Jazz Band continues to focus on their most challenging charts for our upcoming festivals. A very momentous congratulation goes out to Nathan Hazelrigg for making Lead Trombone, (1st Chair) in the All-State Jazz Band! Have a happy and safe Holiday Season.
Winter Percussion
Percussion is working hard preparing both concert band music for festival as well as preparing for the first indoor percussion competition next Saturday. Look for an email today regarding what clothing needs to be purchased to go along with the tops that the program has already purchased as well as our pit crew needs for the first competition.
Color Guard
The Varsity Guard has completed all of their drill and a majority of the work in their winter guard production. We are excited about that. It is the most prepared they have been leading up to the first show.
The floor will be delivered any day. Flags, any day. Costumes just a few weeks away. Things are looking good.
We are excited to have for only the second time in school history a Junior Varsity Winter Guard. This experience will allow a select group of students the chance to stand out and be soloists in a group that will help them expand their vocabulary and performance techniques. Â
We can’t wait to see both groups first performance next weekend at Clovis West.
Performance schedule can be found at www.sjvcgpr.org

Have a great week!
David Lesser, Director of Bands
