From The Director's Desk

Two great events this week:

  1. Football game at Lamonica Stadium vs. Clovis HS.  We will perform pregame with Clovis HS, then play in the stands to root on our Broncos.

  2. Stadium rehearsal on Saturday!  Come out and see the first full run-through of the show.  This is open to the public.  Please arrive at VMS between 8 and 8:15 pm.  We will do our first full run around 8:30 pm.  It is a great opportunity to see the first performance.  This will allow you to see the transformation and improvements of our student performers when we get to Championships, only 7 weeks from now. We will have some food trucks there available after 4pm.  Ohana Whip & Burger Bistro will be there if you are interested in watching some rehearsal and supporting the band!!!

STANDARD OF THE WEEK

ALWAYS PERFORM

ree

As we get closer to completing the field show it is important we all hold ourselves to a higher standard and are responsible for our performance.  We need to have high expectations for ourselves and our friends on the field with us.

We are working this year to be “Extra”Ordinary.  To do that we must do the ordinary things EXTRA.  We must perform every time we have a chance to move, to make music, to dance, to spin… to perform.

All State Auditions and Recordings

We have created profiles for every student who has voiced interest in auditioning for the All-State Band and Orchestra.  Now every student must upload their audition and pay the registration fee by 10/10, so I can go through and certify each audition.  We have over 20 students planning to audition for the All-State Band.  That is awesome!!!  This means I will need to listen to all 20 auditions to make sure things are submitted correctly.  If anything is incorrect, we need a few days to make the corrections. To do that, PLEASE make sure all audition materials are submitted by October 10.  Good luck and thank you!

Senior Night

Friday, October 31, at our football game against Clovis East High School, we will be honoring our senior band and color guard members and their families.  Seniors, be on the lookout for a blue one-page form to turn in to Mr. Rogers!

GSTOB

Golden State Tournament of Bands is one of the longest-running high school marching band competitions in California.  We have the privilege of being one of the hosts of this event along with Clovis HS, Clovis West HS, and Clovis East HS.  We have some responsibilities and volunteer slots that will need to be filled to help run this event.  It is also a fundraiser for our program.  We average about $3000.00 earned for helping to host this event.  You can sign up for volunteer slots on CutTime now 🙂

HOLIDAY CATALOG

Only two more fundraisers in the fall semester.  This is the first. Our holiday catalog fundraiser.  We have two weeks to make this a success.  We want the goal to be $10,000 in profit.  That means if ALL students participate A LITTLE, we should be able to make this a success.  We currently have about $2000 in sales (not profit) and we have till the 13th to raise some funds. Last year at this time we had over $6000 in sales.

PIE SALE FUNDRAISER

Are live on the website!  Please order your pies for the holidays:

Pledge form & Signed Documents

Part of the grade is the signed documents on cuttime and the fall pledge form.  Only about 60% of our students have completed the fall pledge with their families.  This must be completed and submitted so we are able to formulate our financial plan for the school year.  Please complete this as soon as possible.

MATTRESS FUNDRAISER

The results are in.  We earned about $7500.00 on this year's mattress fundraiser.  Danny told us it was about the same result as last year. I hope next year we can work even harder to try to eclipse the $10,000.00 mark.

Thank you to everyone who helped, got the word out, found your person to send to the gym, or even purchased a mattress!!!

FALL CONCERT

Our fall concert is scheduled for next week on  Wed. Oct. 15.  We hope to see all of our families in attendance.  Stay tuned for more info about the fall concert. We will have food trucks starting at 4:30pm to have a band family gathering before the concert.  This will also help raise some money for the band.

The concert will begin at 7pm.  Admission is $5.00

Students will need the proper attire for this concert. It is the following:

  • Boys: Black suit or tuxedo, white long-sleeve dress shirt, black bow tie, black dress socks, black dress shoes (marching band shoes are acceptable for this).

  • Girls: Black dress pants or slacks, black blouse or sweater, black stockings/socks, black dress shoes (flats)

WBA INDEPENDENCE HS

Our first band contest is only a week and a half away.  We will be traveling to San Jose to perform.  The current schedule is up to date on the CutTime events calendar.  We hope to see some of our family members travel and give us a great rooter section.  Stadium seats are limited so you will want to get there early.

Reminder, our Tuesday rehearsal will end today at 5:30pm.  We will be back at our normal Tuesday rehearsals beginning next week.

As always, thank you for your support of our program.

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!

Have a great rest of your week!
