CN Band Newsletter 01.27.2026

From the Director’s Desk

Good Afternoon,

Pledge Forms: There are still quite a few members and families who have not completed these forms.  Pledge forms for the spring activities need to be completed no later than Friday, Jan. 31.  They will be counted as a signed document homework assignment.  Here are links to each activity.

Wind Ensemble

We are making some good strides on our festival music.  Video Recording assignments are posted on Cuttime as well as in the Wind Ensemble Google Classroom.  To join the Google Classroom, please use the code:

The third movement of 4 Scottish Dances is due this Friday. It is suggested that students not wait until Friday afternoon to start recording.  It would be a great idea to do multiple takes throughout the week, analyze their recordings, and then select their best performance to submit.  These are called music “pass-offs”.  We want to hear students' best playing. These should be treated like a check-off rather than an evaluation.  It would be great if each member performed the piece proficiently so we can then “Check it off” the list and move on to something else.

It has been great to listen to everyone's submission and hear the improvements being made.  It is also really helpful to hear each musician as the listening process has made it easier to guide rehearsal in class based on the needs of improvement from the recordings.  This is truly a valuable tool to help increase the accountability and musicianship of the ensemble and individual student.

Our next concert will be on Wednesday, January 28.  This is our area band articulation concert with the Granite Ridge Symphonic Band and our CN Area 6th-grade band students.

Jazz Band

The CN Jazz Band continues to focus on their most challenging charts for our upcoming festivals. The Dixieland band will have an upcoming performance or two soon.  The Jazz band is preparing for their first festival in Tulare beginning of February

Winter Pageantry

Congratulations to our 5 performing ensembles last weekend!  They all had fantastic first performances.  None of the programs are complete yet, but they were well put together for the first time out.  The goal over the next three weeks will be to complete the programs in time for our performances at Buchanan High School on February 13. Performance schedule can be found at www.sjvcgpr.org or wgasc.org

Thank you to our parents who volunteered to provide a great hospitality spread for our adjudicators and staff members for performing groups last weekend.  It was first class!

Little Broncos

Our Little Broncos Elementary Guard had their first meeting last week.  We are looking to add about 15 - 20 more students to the group.

If you know anyone with a 3rd - 6th grade student who may be interested in participating, please have them join us tomorrow.

Check out this information page, https://www.clovisnorthband.org/little-broncos

US ARMY FIELD BAND CONCERT

We are very fortunate to have the US Army Field Band from Washington DC stop in Fresno and play a concert in our concert hall on Saturday February 21 in the Concert Hall.  Please see the information to procure tickets.

It will be required for Wind Ensemble students to attend this event.  Tickets are free.  This is one of the premier wind bands in the United States.  You won’t want to miss this.

Chocolate Bar Candy Sales

It will begin in just a few weeks.  There has been an increase to the cost of the candy bar.  They were now $2.00 per bar, with each box containing 50 candy bars instead of 60.  We can raise a substantial amount of funds for the band, as well as our indoor programs, with this fundraiser.

2026 Crab Feed

Good morning Band Family!

Ticket sales for this year's Crab Feed are LIVE!! That means it's not only time to get your tickets, but it's also time to share the information with your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors!

The Clovis North Band & Color Guard Annual Crab Feed will be Saturday, March 14th at The Barn at San Joaquin River Parkway. The event features an all-you-can-eat dinner of Dungeness Crab, salad, pasta, and bread, a dessert auction, a HUGE silent auction, fun and games, and an evening full of community camaraderie. Guests must be 21+ to attend. All proceeds benefit the Clovis North and Granite Ridge Band & Color Guard. It's our biggest fundraiser of the year and none of it would be possible without our guests.

Please help spread the word! Attached to this email are 2 versions of our flyer: one is a digital image (jpeg file) where the QR code would be clickable when used to share online, the other is a printable version (pdf file) for use in posting in your business, your office breakroom, HOA bulletin board, or wherever else you may think would aid in visibility. Click here to get your tickets today...

Teamwork makes the dream work, so help us share, share, share!!!

And don't forget to grab your own tickets to this SUPER FUN night!

Thank you!
